The South Central Satellites will head out to take on the La Porte Slicers at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. La Porte took a loss in their last game and will be looking to turn the tables on South Central, who comes in off a win.
South Central is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. They put the hurt on Portage with a sharp 16-1 victory on Monday. With that win, the Satellites brought their scoring average up to 6.2 runs per game.
Valerie Horne was a major factor no matter where she played. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out 11 over five innings pitched. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than one walk in four consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with one run and one RBI.
In other batting news, Taylor Cleek was a standout: she went 2-for-3 with two runs, two RBI, and one double. That's the most runs she has posted since back in April of 2024. Another player making a difference was Marlee Cavinder, who went 1-for-3 with one home run and two RBI.
South Central always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .543. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Meanwhile, La Porte lost a heartbreaker to Crown Point when they met back in May of 2024, and they left with a heavy heart again on Wednesday. The Slicers lost 12-2 to the Bulldogs.
La Porte saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Shayla Sorg, who went 1-for-2 with two RBI and one double.
South Central pushed their record up to 15-5-1 with the victory, which was their fourth straight on the road. The road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.5 runs over those games. As for La Porte, they have been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 12-15 record this season.
South Central might still be hurting after the 7-0 loss they got from La Porte in their previous matchup back in May of 2018. Can the Satellites avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
