The Westminster Owls will head out on the road to square off against the Catonsville Comets at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Westminster has given up an average of 9.9 runs per game this season, but Tuesday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
Westminster lost 17-1 to South Carroll on Monday. The Owls have struggled against the Cavaliers recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive lost matchup.
Westminster saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Sammy Foo, who went 1-for-2 with one RBI.
Catonsville hadn't beaten Perry Hall on the road since March 28, 2022 but that history sure didn't bother them on Monday. The Comets were the clear victors by a 14-3 margin over the Gators. The result was nothing new for the Comets, who have now won four contests by eight runs or more so far this season.
Kaia Gross made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run over seven innings pitched. Gross was also stellar in the batter's box, getting on base in four of her six plate appearances with three runs, one double, and one RBI.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Emily Meiller, who got on base in five of her six plate appearances with four runs, one triple, and two RBI. Another player making a difference was Sky Mikow, who went 3-for-5 with four RBI and one double.
Catonsville always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .588. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Westminster's loss dropped their record down to 4-6. As for Catonsville, their record is now 5-6.
Everything went Westminster's way against Catonsville in their previous meeting back in May of 2023, as Westminster made off with a 12-4 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Owls since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
