Basketball Recap: Perquimans Comes Up Short

Perquimans was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their third straight defeat. They were one points away from ending the streak, but they lost a 55-54 heartbreaker at the hands of the North East Carolina Prep Husky. The Pirates were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Husky apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in February of 2024.

Perquimans' defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Xavier Spellman, who posted 17 points and five rebounds, and Nyquan Riddick, who put up 15 points and three steals. What's more, Spellman also racked up two assists, the most he's had since back in January of 2024. Another player making a difference was Parker Nixon, who earned eight points and six rebounds.

North East Carolina Prep got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Jaylon Harris out in front who went 7 of 12 on his way to 21 points along with seven boards and four steals. Harris is on a roll when it comes to steals, as he's now grabbed two or more in the last five games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Chadwick Barnes, who dropped a double-double on 12 points and 14 rebounds.

Perquimans' loss dropped their record down to 2-9. As for North East Carolina Prep, their victory was their fourth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 8-2.

Perquimans didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next match, a 73-46 defeat against Washington County on the 7th. As for North East Carolina Prep, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next contest, a 67-48 win against Hobgood Charter on the 7th.
