After flying high against the Cumberland County Jets last Tuesday, the Stone Memorial Panthers came back down to earth. Stone Memorial was just a bucket shy of victory on Friday and fell 45-44 to Upperman. Stone Memorial was given a dose of their own medicine in this game as Upperman apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played on January 5th.
Despite the loss, Stone Memorial still got an impressive performance from Cade Capps, who dropped a double-double on 23 points and 11 rebounds. That was a full 52.3% of Stone Memorial's points, marking the 17th time in a row he's earned more than a third of the team's points. Another player making a difference was Brady Lane, who scored ten points.
Stone Memorial's defeat dropped their record down to 13-8. As for Upperman, the win (which was their seventh in a row) raised their record to 14-3.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Stone Memorial won't have much time to rest: their next matchup is against DeKalb County at 2:00 p.m. on January 27th. DeKalb County will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Tennessee Rankings (they are ranked 206th, while Stone Memorial is ranked 67th). As for Upperman, they will head out on the road to challenge Livingston Academy at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Livingston Academy has been dominant on offense recently, as they've racked up an incredible 219 points over their last three matches.
