The Boulder City Eagles will face off against the Laughlin Cougars at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty run totals in their previous games.
Boulder City is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Nevada's top teams: Basic, who was ranked third at the time (Boulder City was ranked 23rd). The Eagles fell just short of the Wolves by a score of 12-11 on Saturday. Despite running the score up even higher than they did in their prior game on Thursday (ten), the Eagles still had to take the loss.
Cael Starley was huge no matter where he played even without the win. On the mound, he pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two hits in six consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with two RBI.
In other batting news, Gauge Rhodes made the most of his time in the batter's box despite the final result and went 3-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and two RBI. Another player making a difference was Spencer Aten, who went 2-for-5 with two RBI, one run, and one double.
Meanwhile, Laughlin waltzed into their contest on Tuesday with five straight wins... but they left with six. They never let the Diamondback get on the board and left with a 15-0 victory. The Cougars might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 11 matchups by six runs or more this season.
Like Boulder City, Laughlin also got a great game from a two-way player: Anthony Brookins. He pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. Brookins was also big at the plate, going a perfect 1-for-1 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one triple. That triple marked the first that he has hit this season.
In other batting news, Zeus Sanchez was a standout: he went a perfect 2-for-2 with four stolen bases, three runs, and one triple. Laughlin is 11-2 when Sanchez posts two or more runs, but 3-4 otherwise. Adrian Ruiz was another key player, going a perfect 2-for-2 with five stolen bases and two runs.
Laughlin was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .650. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .304 or higher in 12 consecutive games.
Laughlin's win bumped their record up to 14-6. As for Boulder City, their loss dropped their record down to 12-11.
Friday's contest will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Boulder City hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .337. However, it's not like Laughlin struggles in that department as they've averaged .495. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
