The Wirt County Tigers are on the road again on Friday and play against the Webster County Highlanders at 7:00 p.m. on November 3rd. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, the pair will really light up the scoreboard.
Wirt County put the finishing touches on their fourth blowout victory of the season on Friday. They breezed by Madonna on the road to the tune of 35-8.
It was another big night for Chase Lowe, who rushed for 275 yards and three touchdowns while picking up 9.5 yards per carry. Lowe hasn't dropped below 100 rushing yards for three straight games. Wirt County also got a significant boost from Channing Lowe, who ran away from the competition to the tune of 81 yards.
Webster County can finally bid farewell to their five-game losing streak thanks to their game on Friday. They took down Calhoun 38-22. The win was just what Webster County needed coming off of a 64-36 defeat in their prior contest.
Webster County got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Isaac Snyder out in front who threw for 131 yards and three touchdowns, and also punched in a touchdown on the ground. Another player making a difference was Isaac Cutlip, who gained 91 total yards and two touchdowns.
Webster County's defense stepped up as well, laying out the QB three times. Leading the way was Jackie Ferguson and his two sacks.
Wirt County now has a winning record of 5-4. As for Webster County, their victory bumped their record up to 3-6.
Friday's match might be decided on the ground as these two are both standouts in the run game. Wirt County has been unstoppable on the ground this season, having averaged 247.7 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Webster County struggles in that department as they've been averaging 161.9 per game. It's looking like Friday's matchup might have some serious battles in the trenches.
Everything came up roses for Wirt County against Webster County in their previous meeting back in September of 2020 as the team secured a 76-6 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for Wirt County since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
