Given Rootstown's advantage in MaxPreps' Ohio basketball rankings (they are ranked 94th, while Kirtland is ranked 473rd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Rootstown was led to victory by Colbie Curall and Brooklynn McIntyre. Curall scored nine points along with ten steals and seven rebounds, while McIntyre dropped a double-double on ten points and 14 rebounds. Curall is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last four games she's played. Porter Smith was another key contributor, scoring nine points along with two steals and two blocks.
Rootstown pushed their record up to 14-2 with that victory, which was their tenth straight at home dating back to last season. They've been dominating during the matches in that stretch too, as they've won by an average of 31.1 points. As for Kirtland, they have traveled a rocky road recently, as they've lost three of their last four contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 8-8 record this season.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Rootstown will take on Southeast at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Kirtland, they will look to defend their home court on Wednesday against Grand Valley at 6:45 p.m. Grand Valley will be looking to extend their current three-game winning streak.
