Basketball Recap: Bastrop Now 11-1 over Last 12 Games

Bastrop won the last time they faced Crockett and things went their way on Tuesday too. The Bastrop Bears strolled past the Crockett Cougars with points to spare, taking the game 61-42. Given the Bears' advantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 246th, while the Cougars are ranked 847th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Bastrop to victory, but perhaps none more so than Kenadee Lawhon, who posted 19 points and four steals. The matchup was Lawhon's fifth in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Navaeh Jones, who dropped a double-double on 12 points and 12 boards.

Bastrop smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 37 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 11 offensive rebounds in 24 consecutive games.

Despite the loss, Crockett still got an impressive performance from Lauren Smith, who went 8 of 18 en route to 19 points and eight steals. That was a full 45.2% of Crockett's points, marking the third time in a row she's had more than a third of the team's points. Aubriana Arispe was another key player, putting up nine points.

Bastrop has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 11 of their last 12 contests, which provided a nice bump to their 31-3 record this season. They've dominated over that stretch too, winning by an average of 32.1 points. As for Crockett, they have been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 17-14 record this season.

Bastrop will be playing at home against Anderson at 8:00 p.m. on Friday. Anderson will roll in looking for their fifth straight victory, something Bastrop surely won't give up without a fight. As for Crockett, they will head out to challenge Navarro at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
