The El Camino Wildcats are taking a road trip to face off against the San Dieguito Academy Mustangs at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. El Camino's pitching crew has only allowed 3.6 runs per game this season, so San Dieguito Academy's hitters will have their work cut out for them.
El Camino is probably headed into the matchup with a chip on their shoulder considering Carlsbad just ended the team's three-game winning streak on Monday. They came up short against the Lancers, falling 10-4. The pitching woes were uncharacteristic for the Wildcats, who until this game were averaging 3.6 runs allowed.
Kailey Dain and Bella Mendoza did some serious damage despite the final result: Dain went 1-for-3 with two runs and one double, while Mendoza went 2-for-3 with one run and one double.
Meanwhile, San Dieguito Academy was not the first on the board on Monday, but they got there more often. Everything went their way against Morse as they made off with a 12-2 win. Considering the Mustangs have won seven contests by more than seven runs this season, Monday's blowout was nothing new.
San Dieguito Academy also got a great performance from Lilly Besemer as she tossed five innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off three hits.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Joie Brown, who got on base in all three of her plate appearances with one home run, three runs, and four RBI. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in March. Another player making a difference was Emi Adams, who went 2-for-3 with two runs and one RBI.
San Dieguito Academy always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .613. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
The victory made it two in a row for San Dieguito Academy and bumps their season record up to 15-5-1. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.0 runs over those games. As for El Camino, their defeat dropped their record down to 16-9.
Tuesday's matchup will be a test for both teams' pitchers. El Camino hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .348. However, it's not like San Dieguito Academy struggles in that department as they've averaged .329. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
El Camino couldn't quite finish off San Dieguito Academy in their previous matchup back in April and fell 7-5. Can the Wildcats avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
