Staunton has gone 8-1 against Pana recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Friday. The Bulldogs will head out on the road to square off against the Panthers at 4:30 p.m. Staunton is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.3 runs per game this season.
Staunton's pitching crew heads into the matchup hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Wednesday. They blew past East Alton-Wood River 15-0. The Bulldogs haven't had any issues with the Oilers recently, as the game was their third consecutive win against them.
Lucas Coalson was a standout: he went a perfect 2-for-2 with four RBI, one run, and one double. Those four RBI gave him a new career-high. Ashton Rizzi also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.
Staunton was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .625. That's the best batting average they've posted all season.
Meanwhile, it may have taken eight innings to finish the job, but Pana ultimately got the result they hoped for on Thursday. They won by a run and slipped past Litchfield 10-9. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Panthers.
Cash Lynch was incredible, going 3-for-4 with three stolen bases and three runs. Another player making a difference was Parker Moore, who got on base in three of his five plate appearances with two stolen bases, one run, and one RBI.
Pana now has a winning record of 8-7. As for Staunton, they now have a winning record of 9-8-1.
Pana's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Staunton hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .346. It's a different story for Pana, though, as they've only averaged .254. Will they be able to contain Staunton's hitters?
Staunton came out on top in a nail-biter against Pana when the teams last played back in April of 2024, sneaking past 8-6. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Bulldogs since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
