The Estrella Foothills Wolves will take on the Lake Havasu Knights at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
Estrella Foothills fought the good fight in their overtime matchup against Deer Valley on Thursday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They took a 20-14 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Skyhawks.
Despite their loss, Estrella Foothills saw several players rise to the challenge and make noteworthy plays. Mickey Raftery, who threw for 166 yards and two touchdowns, and also rushed for 49 yards, was perhaps the best of all. Even if they lost, Estrella Foothills' defense still kept up the pressure with four sacks. Deer Valley's QB won't forget Jacob Ludlow anytime soon given he sacked him twice. Ludlow also set a new season-high mark in total tackles with six.
Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Lake Havasu, who bounced back after a loss on the road last Friday. They took down Youngker 36-19 on Friday.
Estrella Foothills better keep an eye on Luke Johnson. He was instrumental in Lake Havasu's win, rushing for 71 yards and four scores. Those four rushing touchdowns gave Johnson a new career-high.
Lake Havasu didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off four passes before the game was over. Spencer Ibarra led the group effort, picking up two of those interceptions all by himself. Owen Merrill was another major factor on D, picking up two sacks and making nine total tackles (4.0 for loss).
Lake Havasu has been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six games. That's provided a nice bump to their 6-2 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 40.5 points over those games. As for Estrella Foothills, their defeat dropped their record down to 6-2.
Friday's contest might be decided in the trenches. Estrella Foothills has been excellent on the ground this season, having averaged 175.1 rushing yards per game. It's a different story for Lake Havasu, though, as they've been averaging only 92.6 rushing yards. How will they fare against such a dominant running game?
Estrella Foothills was dealt a bruising 47-0 loss at the hands of Lake Havasu when the teams last played back in October of 2021. Thankfully for the Wolves, Cody Pellaton (who picked up 189 receiving yards and one touchdown) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result? There's only one way to find out.
