After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Palatka, Hawthorne was happy to have turned things around on Thursday. They blew past the Countryside Christian Minutemen 17-9. The Hornets might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won seven matches by six runs or more this season.
Branson Byrd was a major factor no matter where he played. He pitched three innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits. What's more, he posted five strikeouts, the most he's had since back in March of 2024. He was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring three runs and stealing a base while getting on base in all six of his plate appearances. He is becoming a predictor of Hawthorne's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is undefeated (and 3-8 when he doesn't).
In other batting news, Hunter Thomas was a standout: he went 4-for-5 with four RBI and one double. Hawthorne is undefeated when Thomas posts three or more RBI, but 6-8 otherwise. The team also got some help courtesy of Ethan Thomas, who scored two runs while going 4-for-6.
