The Brunswick Blue Devils will head out on the road to face off against the Avon Lake Shoremen at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. Brunswick's pitching crew has only allowed 3.8 runs per game this season, so Avon Lake's hitters will have their work cut out for them.
On Tuesday, Brunswick was able to grind out a solid victory over Strongsville, taking the game 9-6.
The team relied heavily on Elijah Poindexter, who got on base in all four of his plate appearances with two runs and one double. Cole Rauscher was another key player, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with one run and one RBI.
Meanwhile, Avon Lake waltzed into their game on Friday with two straight wins... but they left with three. They came out on top against the Warriors by a score of 7-2.
Nate Haven was incredible, going 3-for-4 with two stolen bases, two RBI, and one run. Those three hits gave him a new career-high. Luke Swain also deserves some recognition as he brought in his first RBI of the season.
Avon Lake hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. The team has now struck out at least five batters in four consecutive matches.
Brunswick is on a roll lately: they've won 11 of their last 13 contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 15-8 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.1 runs over those games. As for Avon Lake, their victory was their eighth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 16-9.
Friday's game might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Brunswick has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .453. However, it's not like Avon Lake struggles in that department as they've averaged .435. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Brunswick beat Avon Lake 4-0 in their previous matchup back in April of 2024. Do the Blue Devils have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Shoremen turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
