The New Philadelphia Quakers scored the most points they've had all season to find success on Wednesday. They claimed a resounding 65-38 victory over Steubenville at home. New Philadelphia pushed the score to 52-28 by the end of the third, a deficit Steubenville had little chance of recovering from.
Despite the defeat, Steubenville saw an underclassman step up: Santino Haney scored 15 points along with five assists. That was a full 39.5% of Steubenville's points, marking the fourth time in a row he's earned more than a third of the team's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Tre'von Wiggins, who scored seven points along with two steals.
New Philadelphia's win was their fifth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 11-7. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 52.0 points per game. As for Steubenville, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 7-11.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. New Philadelphia will square off against Mansfield Senior at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. New Philadelphia has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games. Steubenville will be staying on the road on Friday to face off against Brooke at 7:15 p.m. on February 9th. Hopefully Steubenville focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 11 on Wednesday.
