Baseball Recap: Muncie Central Comes Up Short

If Muncie Central was riding high fresh off their 14-2 takedown of Marion last Saturday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Bearcats took a 9-6 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Monroe Central Golden Bears on Friday. The Bearcats haven't had much luck with the Golden Bears recently, as the team has come up short the last three times they've met.

Parker Shelley and Gage Emberton did some serious damage despite the final result: Shelley went 1-for-3 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one double, while Emberton went 1-for-4 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run. Shelley is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged at least one in each of the last three games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Ryan Graham, who got on base in two of his three plate appearances with two stolen bases and one run.

Muncie Central's loss dropped their record down to 3-14. As for Monroe Central, their victory ended a three-game drought at home and bumped them up to 5-12.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Muncie Central will challenge Anderson at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. As for Monroe Central, they will face off against Union County at 5:30 p.m. on Monday. The Golden Bears' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Patriots have averaged an impressive 8.5 runs per game this season.
