Glendale hasn't had much luck against Burbank recently, but that could start to change on Monday. The Nitros will challenge the Bulldogs at 3:45 p.m. The two teams each escaped (but just barely!) with wins against their previous opponents.
Glendale was handed a 14-run defeat in their previous outing, but that didn't affect their clutch gene on Wednesday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 2-1 victory over Gabrielino. The win was some much needed relief for the Nitros as it spelled an end to their four-game losing streak.
Natalie Minkler spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered a run (which was unearned) on two hits and racked up 11 Ks.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Jade Marquez, who went 2-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI.
Meanwhile, Burbank was not the first on the board on Tuesday, but they got there more often. They had just enough and edged out Muir 3-1. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Bulldogs have posted since March 10th.
Burbank also let their pitcher toss all seven innings and she was also dialed-in: Maddison Kellogg gave up only one earned run on three hits and racked up 11 Ks. Kellogg has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in four consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Burbank secured the win behind a pair of hitters. One of them was Samantha Cafferty, who went 1-for-4 with one run.
Burbank has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four games. That's provided a nice bump to their 7-11-1 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.8 runs over those games. As for Glendale, their record now sits at 10-12-1.
Both Glendale and Burbank just can't seem to miss. The Nitros have been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 9 hits per game. However, it's not like Burbank struggles in that department as they've been averaging only 3.8 hits. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Glendale suffered a grim 16-5 defeat to Burbank in their previous matchup back in April of 2024. Can the Nitros avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
