Morris has gone 7-1 against Wilmington recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Friday. The Redskins will look to defend their home field against the Wildcats at 4:30 p.m. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (Morris 3.6, Wilmington 3.1) so any runs scored will be well earned.
On Thursday, Morris beat Reed-Custer 7-2. The Redskins haven't had any issues with the Comets recently, as the game was their fifth consecutive victory against them.
Reed-Custer's batters probably weren't too happy with Tessa Shannon, who pitched a no hitter (she gave up four walks).
On the hitting side, Cami Pfeifer and Halie Olson did most of the damage at the plate: Pfeifer went 1-for-3 with three stolen bases, two RBI, and one run, while Olson went 1-for-3 with three runs, one stolen base, and one double. That's the most stolen bases Pfeifer has posted since back in April of 2024. Karson Dransfeldt was another key player, going 3-for-4 with one stolen base and one run.
Meanwhile, Wilmington waltzed into their contest on Thursday with five straight wins... but they left with six. They never let the Blazing Trojan get on the board and left with a 14-0 win. The result was nothing new for the Wildcats, who have now won 13 matches by eight runs or more so far this season.
Lexi Strohm looked comfortable as she kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out seven over four innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up a single earned run in three consecutive appearances.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Molly Southall, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with three stolen bases, four runs, and two triples. The team also got some help courtesy of Nina Egizio, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs, three RBI, and one double.
Wilmington's victory was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 19-5. Those road wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.3 runs on average over those games. As for Morris, their victory bumped their record up to 18-7.
Friday's game might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Morris has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .435. However, it's not like Wilmington struggles in that department as they've averaged .525. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Morris was able to grind out a solid win over Wilmington when the teams last played back in May of 2024, winning 8-3. Will the Redskins repeat their success, or do the Wildcats have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
