Softball Recap: Great Bridge Snaps Six-Game Streak of Wins on the Road

Great Bridge dropped their record down to 15-4 on Monday, which also ended the team's six-game streak of wins on the road. They fell 4-1 to the Deep Creek Hornets. The Wildcats were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Hornets apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in May of 2024.

As for Deep Creek, they have been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five games. That's provided a nice bump to their 13-6 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.8 runs on average over those games.

For Deep Creek's part, Lilly B made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out six over five innings pitched. B has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 14 consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with one run.

In other pitching news, Larah Fray looked comfortable as she tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't tossed less than seven strikeouts in three consecutive appearances.

Back at the plate, Deep Creek let Rayna Klar and Bailey Cockrell run wild. Klar went 2-for-3 with two RBI and one run, while Cockrell got on base in all three of her plate appearances with one double and one RBI. That's the most hits Klar has posted since back in April.

Coming up, Great Bridge will be playing in front of their home fans against Grassfield at 5:45 p.m. on Tuesday. The Grizzlies' pitching crew has only allowed 4.1 runs per game this season, so the Wildcats' hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for Deep Creek, they will venture away from home to take on Western Branch at 5:45 p.m. on Tuesday. The Bruins will roll in looking for their sixth straight win, something the Hornets surely won't give up without a fight.
