Narbonne (Harbor City, Calif.) came into Saturday's contest ranked No. 2 in the MaxPreps Freeman Rankings, but was stunned by
Centennial (Corona, Calif.), 41-34. Centennial was ranked No. 12 nationally and No. 3 in the Freeman Rankings for California coming into the week.
After trailing 27-8 at the half, the Gauchos went ahead on a
Jacob Esquivel touchdown pass to
Tre Watson with less than a minute remaining in the fourth.
Centennial saw its 19-point halftime lead fall to five entering the fourth.
Troy Williams played well for Narbonne. The senior quarterback threw three touchdowns. His performance brought his touchdown total to 12 on the year.
Esquivel stood out for CHS in the win. The freshman threw four touchdowns.
NHS came in giving up 7.3 points per game this season. The Harbor City school struggled against the Corona school, which came in averaging 51.1 points per game.
The defeat comes as a step back for Narbonne, which notched a 25-0 victory over Crenshaw in its previous outing.
