Baseball Recap: Tuesday's Victory Is Isabella's Sixth in Last Eight Outings

Isabella barely beat Verbena the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Mustangs blew past the Red Devils 17-5 on Tuesday. Considering the Mustangs have won ten contests by more than 11 runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.

Levi Wilkins made a big impact no matter where he played. He tossed three innings while giving up just two earned (and two unearned) runs off three hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 1-for-2. Isabella is undefeated when Wilkins posts two or more runs, but 4-7 otherwise.

In other batting news, Austin Porter was a standout: he went 2-for-3 with four runs and two triples. Those two triples gave him a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Jayden Thomas, who scored three runs and stole two bases while going 2-for-3.

Isabella always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .606. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Verbena only posted an OBP of .217.

Isabella is on a roll lately: they've won six of their last eight matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 13-7 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.9 runs on average over those games. As for Verbena, their loss dropped their record down to 12-12.

Isabella does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Verbena, they will challenge Billingsley at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Red Devils' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Bears have averaged an impressive 6.7 runs per game this season.
