The South Dade Buccaneers had already proven themselves in the regular season, and didn't miss a beat now that it's playoff time. They came out on top against West Broward by a score of 43-31 on Friday. This was one game where the offenses had no trouble playing at a high level.
South Dade can attribute much of their success to Jean Calixte, who threw for 313 yards and four touchdowns while picking up 13.0 yards per attempt. Sedric Melvin was another key contributor, picking up 171 receiving yards and a touchdown.
Jonathan Morillo and Joshua Moore certainly did their best on Friday to try and avoid the loss. Morillo threw for 186 yards and two touchdowns, while Moore picked up 75 receiving yards and a touchdown. Zaheed Pierre made the highlight reel by snagging an interception and taking it all the way to the house.
The victory (which was South Dade's third in a row) raised their record to 8-4. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 39.0 points per game. As for West Broward, their defeat ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 7-4.
South Dade will head out on the road to face off against Columbus at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Columbus is on a three-game streak of home wins, South Dade a three-game streak of away wins -- so someone will have to leave a streak behind on the field. West Broward does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
