The Lake Station Edison Fighting Eagles will head out on the road to face off against the East Chicago Central Cardinals at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. East Chicago Central took a loss in their last matchup and will be looking to turn the tables on Lake Station Edison, who comes in off a win.
Lake Station Edison gave up the first runs on Tuesday, but they didn't let that get them down. They skirted past Wheeler 13-12. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Fighting Eagles have posted since May 8, 2024.
Joaquin Hernandez made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out six batters over 4.2 innings while giving up just one earned (and seven unearned) runs off seven hits. That's the most strikeouts he has posted since back in April. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run.

In other batting news, Aiden Rowan and Gael Gutierrez did most of the damage at the plate: Rowan went 3-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI, while Gutierrez got on base in four of his five plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI. Those three hits gave Rowan a new career-high. Jordan Hastings was another key player, going 1-for-4 with three RBI, two runs, and one double.
Meanwhile, after soaring to 15 runs the game before, East Chicago Central was a bit more limited in their game on Wednesday. They came up short against Highland, falling 14-0. The Cardinals haven't had much luck with the Trojans recently, as the team has come up short the last seven times they've met.
Lake Station Edison has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 4-9 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 13.0 runs over those games. As for East Chicago Central, they now have a losing record of 6-7.
Lake Station Edison took their victory against East Chicago Central in their previous meeting back in May of 2023 by a conclusive 14-3 score. Do the Fighting Eagles have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Cardinals turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
