Marion has enjoyed a two-game homestand but will soon have to dust off their road jerseys. They will face off against the Barnwell Warhorses at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
With a playoff game on the line, Marion rose to the challenge on Friday. They breezed by Central at home to the tune of 48-0. Marion pushed the score to 41-0 by the end of the third, a deficit Central had no chance of recovering from.
Marion had a senior duo take command as Quay?Sheed Scott gained 175 total yards and two touchdowns and Gabriel Cusack threw for 250 yards and two touchdowns on only 12 passes. The team also got some help courtesy of Jamarius Williams, who picked up 111 receiving yards and two touchdowns.
Meanwhile, after only seven points in their last game, Barnwell made sure to put some points up on the board against Lake Marion on Friday. Barnwell claimed a resounding 35-8 victory over Lake Marion at home.
Jaquan Peeples and Cameron Austin were among the main playmakers for Barnwell as the former rushed for 117 yards and two touchdowns on only ten carries and the latter rushed for 188 yards and two touchdowns on only 12 carries.
Marion's win was their sixth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 10-1. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 42.0 points per game. As for Barnwell, they are on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 7-4 record this season.
Here's a few offensive stats to keep an eye on ahead of Friday's match: Marion has been excellent on the ground this season, having averaged 177.5 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Barnwell struggles in that department as they've been averaging 167.4 per game. It's looking like Friday's match might have some serious battles in the trenches.
