The Sumner Stingrays will take on the Newsome Wolves at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Sumner is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.3 runs per game this season.
Thursday just wasn't the day for Sumner's offense. They fell just short of Gaither by a score of 1-0 on Thursday. The Stingrays' defeat signaled the end of their five-game winning streak.

ETHAN DEJESUS was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out 13 over five innings pitched. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts any time he's pitched this season.
Meanwhile, two teams were on the hunt for playoff glory, but only Newsome walked away with it. They put the hurt on the Hurricanes with a sharp 10-2 win on Tuesday. The Wolves haven't had any issues with the Hurricanes recently, as the game was their third consecutive victory against them.
Robbie DiPietro spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered two runs (both of which were unearned) on five hits and racked up six Ks.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Jacob Swartzlander, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with four RBI, two runs, and one double. Those four hits gave him a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Jaxon Murphy, who went 2-for-4 with two RBI, one run, and one double.
Newsome was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .406. They are a perfect 6-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.
Sumner's loss dropped their record down to 16-7. As for Newsome, their win bumped their record up to 9-15.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Wednesday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Sumner has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 10.2 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Newsome struggles in that department as they've been averaging 6.7 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Sumner skirted past Newsome 4-2 in their previous meeting back in March. Will the Stingrays repeat their success, or do the Wolves have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
