The Lawson Lightning will face off against the Overton Bobcats at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. Lawson is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.8 runs per game this season.
Things were looking good for Lawson after they put the first run on the board on Friday, but unfortunately for them things went downhill from there. They took a 9-4 hit to the loss column at the hands of Christian Community. That's two games in a row now that the Lightning have lost by exactly five runs.
Elliot Swihart put in work no matter where he played. He pitched 2.2 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one hit in four consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with one stolen base and one run.
In other batting news, Sawyer Moore made the most of his time in the batter's box despite the final result and got on base in three of his four plate appearances with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI. Another player making a difference was Harper Schneiderman, who earned one run and two stolen bases.
Meanwhile, it was close, but on Friday Overton sidestepped Harpeth for a 5-4 win.
Like Lawson, Overton also got a great game from a two-way player: TJ Coleman. On the mound, he tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Coleman was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with two RBI, one run, and one double.
In other pitching news, Bryce Wilson tossed a big game, striking out seven batters over five innings while giving up just one earned run off seven hits (and only one walk).
Back at the plate, Will Livingston was excellent, going 3-for-4 with two stolen bases, one triple, and one run. He has become a key player for Overton: the team is undefeated when he posts at least two stolen bases, but 5-6 otherwise. The team also got some help courtesy of Jackson Bennett, who went 1-for-3 with two stolen bases and one RBI.
Overton's victory bumped their record up to 11-6. As for Lawson, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 13-6.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Monday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Lawson has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 8.3 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Overton struggles in that department as they've been averaging 8.4 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Lawson came out on top in a nail-biter against Overton when the teams last played back in March of 2025, sneaking past 8-6. Will the Lightning repeat their success, or do the Bobcats have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
