The Gregory-Portland Wildcats won the last time they faced the Miller Buccaneers, and things went their way on Tuesday too. Gregory-Portland managed a 58-52 victory over Miller. Given Gregory-Portland's advantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 415th, while Miller is ranked 891st), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Gregory-Portland to victory, but perhaps none more so than Madison Kilgore, who dropped a double-double on ten points and ten rebounds. Kilgore is on a roll when it comes to rebounds, as she's now pulled down eight or more in the last three games she's played. Jariyah Whitehead was another key contributor, scoring nine points along with seven rebounds and four steals.
Despite the loss, Miller saw an underclassman step up: Hailey Martinez scored 20 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Leanna Castillo, who scored 11 points.
Gregory-Portland is on a roll lately: they've won nine of their last ten contests, which provided a nice bump to their 22-9 record this season. As for Miller, their defeat dropped their record down to 11-17.
Gregory-Portland will head out on the road to challenge Ray at 6:15 p.m. on Friday. Ray is still on the hunt for that elusive first 'W'. As for Miller, they will look to defend their home court on Friday against Victoria East at 6:30 p.m. Victoria East will be looking to extend their current three-game winning streak.
