Slinger has gone 7-2 against Port Washington recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Monday. The Owls will be playing in front of their home fans against the Pirates at 5:00 p.m. Slinger is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8.2 runs per game this season.
Slinger is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Wisconsin's top teams: Hartford, who was ranked 19th at the time (Slinger was ranked eighth). The Owls fell just short of the Orioles by a score of 4-3 on Friday. The Owls' defeat signaled the end of their eight-game winning streak.
Slinger got a good showing from Will Baumhardt, who tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. That's the fewest hits Baumhardt has allowed since back in May of 2024.
On the hitting side, Slinger saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Macay Wagner, who went 1-for-2 with one double and one RBI. Grady Chvosta was another, going 1-for-2 with one run and one double.
For whatever reason, it's the away team that's had the advantage when Port Washington and West Bend East meet (three straight games heading into this one) and that held true again on Friday. The Pirates sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 5-3 win over the Suns. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Pirates have posted since April 15, 2024.
Slinger's loss was their first in the conference, dropping their conference record down to 7-1 and their overall record down to 9-2. As for Port Washington, their win ended a five-game drought on the road and puts them at 6-9.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Monday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Slinger has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7.5 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Port Washington struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 8.1 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Slinger came out on top in a nail-biter against Port Washington when the teams last played back in April, sneaking past 10-9. Do the Owls have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Pirates turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
