The Victory Christian Academy Patriots will be playing in front of their home fans against the Westlake Academy Blacksmiths at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Victory Christian Academy has nine straight wins, the Blacksmiths have three straight losses), but none of that matters once you're on the field.
In what's become a running theme this season, Victory Christian Academy gave their fans yet another huge win on Tuesday. They blew past Burton Adventist Academy, posting a 78-29 win at home. Given Victory Christian Academy's advantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 429th, while the Angels are ranked 987th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Victory Christian Academy's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Kassie Northcutt, who dropped a double-double on 17 points and 11 steals. Another player making a difference was Jayden Oates, who scored 20 points along with eight steals.
Westlake Academy lost a heartbreaker when they last took the court, but unfortunately for them the defeat they were handed on on Tuesday was a bit more commanding. They were dealt a 58-31 defeat at the hands of Fort Worth Country Day. The loss unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Westlake Academy in their matchups with the Falcons: they've now lost four in a row.
Despite the defeat, Westlake Academy had strong showings from Bella Braxton, who scored 13 points along with two steals, and Maya Sonday, who scored 11 points along with five rebounds and four steals. That was a full 35.5% of Westlake Academy's points, marking the fourth time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points.
Victory Christian Academy's victory was their ninth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 23-3. They've been dominating during the games in that stretch too, as they've won by an average of 45.3 points. As for Westlake Academy, they have traveled a rocky road recently having lost four of their last five matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 12-11 record this season.
Victory Christian Academy strolled past the Blacksmiths when the teams last played back in December of 2020 by a score of 38-23. Does Victory Christian Academy have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Blacksmiths turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
