Football Recap: Monroe Area Piles Up the Points Against Apalachee

Monroe Area got themselves on the board against Apalachee on Friday, but Apalachee never followed suit. They took their game with ease, bagging a 55-0 victory over the Wildcats. Fans of the Purple Hurricanes have seen this all before: every one of the games they've played this season has ended in a blowout of 20+ points.

Monroe Area's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Jitt Carr led the charge by picking up 129 receiving yards and one touchdown, while also punching in three scores on the ground. Carr is crushing it when it comes to rushing touchdowns: he's punched in at least two every time he's taken the field this season. Another passer making a difference was Ezra Harrison, who threw for 197 yards and one TD while completing 81.8% of his passes.

Monroe Area was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 256 rushing yards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now rushed for at least 256 rushing yards every time they've taken the field this season.

Monroe Area didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Cooper Shumate and Bryce Bell. Monroe Area got some further help from Dacian Davis: he picked up a sack, made seven total tackles (6.0 for loss), and defended one pass.

Monroe Area's win bumped their record up to 3-0. As for Apalachee, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-3.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Monroe Area will welcome Walnut Grove at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Apalachee, they will be playing at home against Winder-Barrow at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. This will be the Wildcats' first chance to prove their worth in the conference.
