The Elkhorn North Wolves will head out to take on the Bennington Badgers at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. Elkhorn North is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.4 runs per game this season.
Elkhorn North is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Nebraska's top teams: Skutt Catholic, who was ranked seventh at the time (Elkhorn North was ranked fourth). The Wolves fell 5-1 to the SkyHawks on Friday. The Wolves have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Elkhorn North got a good showing from Hunter Kahlandt, who pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. Kahlandt has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than one walk in seven consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Elkhorn North saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Connor Wurdeman, who went 1-for-4 with one run and one double.
Meanwhile, after soaring to ten runs the game before, Bennington was a bit more limited in their contest on Saturday. They fell just short of Elkhorn by a score of 3-2. The loss continues a trend for the Badgers in their meetings with the Antlers: they've now lost three in a row.
Brody Lichty was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he pitched six innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off seven hits.
At the plate, Noah Langford was cooking despite his team's loss, going 1-for-2 with two RBI and one double.
Elkhorn North's record now sits at 13-3. As for Bennington, their record is now 12-6.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Monday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Elkhorn North has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7.8 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Bennington struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 7.7 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Elkhorn North suffered a grim 7-1 defeat to Bennington in their previous meeting back in April of 2025. Can the Wolves avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
