The Benson Bobcats will be playing at home against the St. David Tigers at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. Benson will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Arizona Rankings (they are ranked 146th, while St. David is ranked 37th).
Benson posted their closest win yet this season on Tuesday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 46-43 victory over Morenci.
Meanwhile, after a string of seven wins, St. David's good fortune finally ran out on Monday. They took a 38-23 bruising from Pima. The result shouldn't come as a shock considering that's the fewest points St. David has scored all season.
Anissa Jacquez put forth a good effort for the losing side as she dropped a double-double on ten points and 15 rebounds. She has been hot recently, having posted eight or more rebounds the last 21 times she's played.
Perhaps unsurprisingly given the score, St. David struggled to work together and finished the game with only an assist. That's the fewest assists they've managed all season.
Benson's victory bumped their record up to 14-9. As for St. David, their defeat ended a 15-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 20-2.
Benson ended up a good deal behind St. David in their previous matchup back in November of 2023, losing 51-33. Will Benson have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check MaxPreps after the action for a full breakdown of the game and more basketball content.
