Stratford Academy took care of business in their home opener (and then some) on Friday. They blew past the St. Anne-Pacelli Vikings 49-17. That's more bragging rights for the Eagles, who also won the pair's last head-to-head.
Stratford Academy's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Tucker Johnston led the charge by throwing for 236 yards and three touchdowns on only 13 passes, while also rushing for 59 yards and a pair of TDs. The Eagles' leading receiver Jett Johnston was Tucker's top target yet again, picking up 119 receiving yards and a pair of scores, while also punching in one TD on the ground.
They were just one part of a punishing run game: Stratford Academy was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 312 rushing yards. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as St. Anne-Pacelli only rushed for 99 rushing yards.
Several Vikings players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Cameron Carino, who rushed for 74 yards and one touchdown.
Stratford Academy will have some time to savor their win since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Pinewood Christian at 7:30 p.m. on the 29th. As for St. Anne-Pacelli, they will host Tattnall Square Academy at 7:30 p.m. on Friday.
