The Cheyenne Mountain Red-Tailed Hawks are taking a road trip to square off against the Lewis-Palmer Rangers at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Cheyenne Mountain is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 10.1 runs per game this season.
Cheyenne Mountain barely beat Thomas Jefferson the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Red-Tailed Hawks' pitchers stepped up to hand the Spartans a 15-0 shutout on Saturday. The Red-Tailed Hawks have beaten the Spartans the last three times they've met, but they better watch out: this was the closest the Spartans has come to flipping the script.
Colton Johnson looked comfortable as he pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits.
At the plate, Cheyenne Mountain got a massive performance out of Jansen Roberts, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, seven RBI, and two runs. What's more, Roberts posted two doubles, the most he's had since back in April of 2024. Nate Glad was another key player, going 3-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs.
Cheyenne Mountain always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .618. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Thomas Jefferson only posted an OBP of .429.
Meanwhile, after soaring to 11 runs the game before, Lewis-Palmer was a bit more limited in their matchup on Saturday. They took a 5-2 hit to the loss column at the hands of Golden. The contest marked the Rangers' lowest-scoring game so far this season.
Lewis-Palmer also got a good showing from Jake Provencio, who pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Provencio has been consistent : he hasn't given up more than one earned run in five consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Lewis-Palmer saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Drew Boyarko, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with one RBI.
Lewis-Palmer's defeat ended a ten-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 9-2. As for Cheyenne Mountain, their record is now 7-1-1.
Cheyenne Mountain couldn't quite finish off Lewis-Palmer in their previous meeting back in April of 2024 and fell 8-6. Can the Red-Tailed Hawks avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
