Northern Durham is 8-2 against Jordan since March of 2018 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Friday. The Knights will venture away from home to face off against the Falcons at 6:00 p.m. Northern Durham is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.5 runs per game this season.
While Northern Durham's win against Chapel Hill wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Knights skirted past the Tigers 7-5. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Knights have posted since April 19, 2024.
The team relied heavily on Roxy Nelson, who scored two runs while getting on base in four of her five plate appearances. Lainey Stutts was another key player, scoring a run while going 2-for-4.
Northern Durham always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .535. They are 2-1 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.
Meanwhile, Jordan waltzed into their matchup on Thursday with three straight wins... but they left with four. They were the clear victors by a 13-5 margin over Green Hope. Jordan might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won six games by eight runs or more this season.
Kylie Specht and Sydney Cornwell did most of the damage at the plate: Specht went 3-for-5 with one home run, three runs, and three RBI, while Cornwell went 3-for-5 with three RBI, two runs, and one triple. Cornwell has been hot recently, having also posted at least one stolen base the last three times she's played. Lucia Terruso also deserves some recognition as she snagged her first stolen bases of the season.
Northern Durham has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four contests. That's provided a massive bump to their 3-9 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.5 runs over those games. As for Jordan, their victory was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 10-2.
Northern Durham was able to grind out a solid win over Jordan when the teams last played back in April of 2024, winning 6-1. Will the Knights repeat their success, or do the Falcons have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
