Kelly extended their losing streak to three on Thursday, dropping their season record down to 11-5 in the process. They lost 20-6 to the Agricultural Science Cyclones. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Cyclones this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 17-1 on Tuesday.
Esteban Ibarra was huge while hitting and pitching even without the win. He pitched three innings while giving up just one earned (and five unearned) runs off three hits. That's the fewest earned runs he has allowed since back in April of 2024. He was also big at the plate, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with one stolen base and two RBI.
In other batting news, Alfredo Socorro made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went 2-for-3 with three runs, one triple, and one stolen base. That triple marked the first that he has hit this season. Another player making a difference was Arturo Martinez, who went 1-for-3 with two stolen bases, two RBI, and one run.
As for Agricultural Science, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 15 of their last 16 games. That's provided a nice bump to their 18-3-2 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.8 runs on average over those games.
Like Kelly, Agricultural Science also got a great game from a two-way player: Isaac Corral. On the mound, Corral pitched 2.1 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Meanwhile, Elias Fernandez struck out nine batters over five innings while giving up just one earned (and four unearned) runs off three hits. What's more, Corral posted three strikeouts, the most he's had since back in April. At bat, Corral got on base in two of his six plate appearances with three runs and two RBI, while Fernandez went 2-for-6 with three runs, one stolen base, and one RBI. Fernandez is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged at least one in each of the last four games he's played.
In other batting news, Jarius Simmons -Watson was incredible, getting on base in four of his six plate appearances with four stolen bases, five runs, and one RBI. He has been hot, having posted at least one stolen base the last eight times he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of David Wilkinson, who got on base in three of his five plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Kelly will welcome Mansueto at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Agricultural Science, they will face off against Air Force Academy at 4:00 p.m. on Friday.
