The Rangely Panthers were the 48-41 winner over the Nucla Mustangs when they last played one another back in December of 2022, but their luck changed this time around. Rangely lost to Nucla at home by a decisive 61-47 margin on Friday. While losing is never fun, Rangely can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Colorado basketball rankings (they are ranked 165th, while Nucla is ranked 50th).
Rangely lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Marcos Quintana, who scored 14 points along with eight rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Quintana has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Tristan Scott, who scored ten points.
Nucla found their leader in underclassman Brycen Rummel, who scored 21 points along with eight rebounds and seven steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Slade Gillen, who scored 15 points along with six rebounds.
Rangely's loss ended a six-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 1-2. As for Nucla, the victory makes it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 2-0.
Rangely won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against Dove Creek at 1:30 p.m. on December 9th. Hopefully Dove Creek focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up ten on Friday. Nucla won't have much time to rest: their next match is against De Beque at 4:30 p.m. on December 9th. De Beque will be looking to extend their current three-game winning streak.
