6A Special District 1 recap September 24, 2013
North Medford scored a shocking upset when it eliminated Sheldon, 21-17. At the time, the Irish were ranked third in the state, while the Black Tornado were 54th.
Roseburg added to the longest winning streak in 6A Special District 1 this week by beating Thurston, 28-14. This was the team's fourth consecutive win.
Brendin Quinn and Roy Jackson gave the Colts a balanced attack through the air and ground last week. Quinn threw for 156 yards, while Jackson ran for 138 yards. Quinn also contributed to the rushing game with 42 yards on the ground.
Quinn and Jackson gave Thurston a balanced attack in passing and rushing last week.
Dallin George was the best wideout in the league this week as Crater lost to Grants Pass. George racked up 8 receptions for 75 yards. Matt Dent helped Crater's passing attack out by catching 4 balls for 47 yards.
Ty Fox was a passing and rushing force as the Comets fell to the Cavemen. He completed 16 passes for 145 yards and also ran for 59 yards.
Jackson was the best running back in the league this week.
Quinn put up the best numbers through the air as Justin Starck's team lost to Roseburg. Quinn's favorite target this week was Carson Cook, who caught 2 passes for 49 yards.
Parker Silva made the biggest impact on defense this week as the Colts lost to Thurman Bell's team. The 5-foot-10 defensive back.
Thurston's offense has been unstoppable this season and the Colts feature the season leaders in passing, rushing and receiving yards. Quinn has thrown for 1,035 yards and 5 touchdowns this season, while Cook has 24 catches for 415 yards.
A big matchup in 6A Special District 1 this week will be when South Eugene takes on the Indians. At the moment, the Axemen are in third, while Roseburg is in first.
North Medford was the team that made the biggest jump in the rankings, moving from fourth to second in the league. Mike Mitchell's team beat Sheldon 21-17 earlier in the week.
