This season hasn't been kind to the Manchester Academy Mavericks, who are still winless after their fourth contest. They received a tough blow on Friday as they fell 50-32 to Central Holmes Christian. While losing is never fun, Manchester Academy can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Mississippi basketball rankings (they are ranked 288th, while Central Holmes Christian is ranked 111th).
Central Holmes Christian's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Hayes Hester, who scored 15 points. The match was Hester's fifth in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Hudson Haffey, who scored ten points.
Manchester Academy's loss dropped their record down to 0-4. As for Central Holmes Christian, their win bumped their record up to 11-2.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Manchester Academy will get a bit of extra time to process the loss as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Delta Streets Academy at 6:00 p.m. on January 16th. Central Holmes Christian and Benton Academy will face off at 7:00 p.m. on January 9th without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Benton Academy has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games.
