Southwestern and Brownstown Central are an even 3-3 against one another since April of 2016, but likely not for long. The Rebels will host the Braves at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (Southwestern 4, Brownstown Central 1.5) so any runs scored will be well earned.
On Tuesday, Southwestern earned a 7-4 win over Rising Sun. The Rebels haven't had any issues with the Shiners recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive victory against them.
Austin Jenkins was excellent, going 1-for-2 with two runs and one stolen base. Another player making a difference was Braxton Lewis, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base and two RBI.
Meanwhile, Brownstown Central entered their tilt with Eastern on Thursday with two consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with three. Their pitcher stepped up to hand the Musketeers a 12-0 shutout. With that win, the Braves brought their scoring average up to 6.5 runs per game.
Kye Trueblood made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out eight over five innings pitched. Those eight strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-4 with two stolen bases and one run.
In other batting news, Brownstown Central let Lane Pendleton and Grant Killey run wild. Pendleton went a perfect 2-for-2 with three runs, one stolen base, and two RBI, while Killey went 2-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base. Those three runs gave Pendleton a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Jaxson Johnson, who got on base in all three of his plate appearances with two runs and one stolen base.
Brownstown Central always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .568. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their OBP total in three consecutive matchups.
Brownstown Central's victory bumped their record up to 3-1. As for Southwestern, their win bumped their record up to 4-2.
Southwestern skirted past Brownstown Central 1-0 when the teams last played back in May of 2024. Will the Rebels repeat their success, or do the Braves have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
