Buffalo Grove is 9-1 against Rolling Meadows since April of 2019 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Monday. The Bison will host the Mustangs at 4:45 p.m. The last three games Buffalo Grove has played have been within two runs, so don't be surprised if it's a close one.
On Saturday, Buffalo Grove didn't have quite enough to beat Evanston and fell 4-3. The Bison haven't had much luck with the Wildkits recently, as the team has come up short the last four times they've met.
Buffalo Grove got a good showing from Brady Horvath, who tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Furthermore, Horvath didn't allow a single walk, the first time he has blanked an opponent since back in March.
On the hitting side, Jordan Dudek was cooking despite his team's loss, going 3-for-4 with one stolen base and one run. The team also got some help courtesy of Owen Erickson, who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base and one RBI.
Rolling Meadows came out on top against Hoffman Estates on Thursday thanks in part to the team's impressive five-run sixth inning. The Mustangs walked away with a 10-6 win over the Hawks. The Mustangs haven't had any issues with the Hawks recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive victory against them.
Luke Schneider made a splash while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out seven batters over 3.1 innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit (and not a single walk). Those seven strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also stellar in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with two stolen bases and three runs.
In other batting news, Ryan Schneider and Josh Rappa did most of the damage at the plate: Ryan went 2-for-3 with two RBI, one run, and one double, while Rappa went 1-for-3 with one home run, one stolen base, and two RBI. Callum Paisley was another key player, going 1-for-4 with two RBI, one run, and one double.
Rolling Meadows was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .387. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Hoffman Estates only posted a batting average of .226.
Buffalo Grove's loss dropped their record down to 4-11-2. As for Rolling Meadows, their win bumped their record up to 14-3.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Monday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Buffalo Grove has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7.7 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Rolling Meadows struggles in that department as they've been averaging 8.2 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Buffalo Grove beat Rolling Meadows 7-2 when the teams last played back in April of 2024. Will the Bison repeat their success, or do the Mustangs have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
