Wilkes Central fell to Ashe County 40-16 last week, the largest margin of any game.
North Wilkes made the biggest leap in the national rankings this week, rising to 7,730 from 8,632. The improvement was largely due to a 36-20 victory over Elkin last week.
Starmount's offense was tough to stop this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. Zach Freed threw for 71 yards and Will Simpson had 28 yards receiving. On the ground Aaron Skeens chipped in 127 yards. Gunner Cass helped Starmount's passing attack out by catching 3 balls for 14 yards.
The Rams' dynamic duo of Freed and Simpson proved to be unstoppable against West Wilkes, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. Cass helped Starmount's passing attack out by catching 3 balls for 14 yards.
Skeens was a passing and rushing force as Starmount beat the Blackhawks.
The Vikings' LJ Hendren and Josh Bare have formed a dream team this season, leading 2A/1A Conference 6 in both passing and receiving yards. 6-0 quarterback Hendren has thrown for 1,081 yards this season, while Bare has 24 catches for 512 yards. Scott Johnson's team's Simpson leads the league in rushing yards with 505.
An important game coming up in the league this week will be when North Wilkes takes on Alleghany. Monty Chipman's team is in first place, while the Trojans are in fifth place.
