Magee has enjoyed the comforts of home their last two games, but now they'll head out on the road. They will square off against the Jefferson County Tigers at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Keep an eye on the score for this one: both teams posted some lofty point totals in their previous games.
With a playoff game on the line, Magee rose to the challenge on Friday. They came out on top against Perry Central by a score of 48-40.
Magee's success was spearheaded by the efforts of Kendarious Porter, who rushed for 177 yards and two touchdowns while picking up 8.0 yards per carry, and Kendal Middleton, who rushed for 83 yards and two touchdowns. Jeremiah Cole did his part to keep the secondary busy, picking up 83 receiving yards and a touchdown.
Meanwhile, Jefferson County put the finishing touches on their fifth blowout victory of the season on Friday. They breezed by Southeast Lauderdale at home to the tune of 62-6. Given Jefferson County's advantage in MaxPreps' Mississippi football rankings (they are ranked 116th, while Southeast Lauderdale is ranked 236th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Jefferson County relied on the efforts of Royale Shelvy, who gained 133 total yards and two touchdowns, and Jabari Watson, who threw for 213 yards and five touchdowns while completing 81.8% of his passes. Jadavis Galtney was another key contributor, picking up 86 receiving yards and two touchdowns.
Magee's victory bumped their record up to 4-7. As for Jefferson County, they pushed their record up to 7-3 with that win, which was their third straight at home.
Magee was able to grind out a solid victory over Jefferson County in their previous matchup back in November of 2022, winning 36-26. The rematch might be a little tougher for Magee since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
