Softball Recap: Hueneme Has No Trouble Against Carpinteria

Hueneme's game on March 1st was a loss, but they didn't let that memory haunt them on Tuesday. They were the clear victor by a 14-4 margin over the Carpinteria Warriors. That ten run margin sets a new team best for the Vikings this season.

Jaucelynn Ayala and Delilah Pereyra were a major factor no matter where they played. Throwing, Ayala didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out eight over four innings pitched. Meanwhile, Pereyra tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Ayala has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than one walk in five consecutive appearances. At bat, Ayala scored a run while going 2-for-2, while Pereyra scored three runs and stole Five bases. while going 3-for-4. Those hits were Pereyra's first of the season.

In other batting news, Roxanna Silva was incredible, scoring three runs and stealing Two bases. while going 3-for-5. Another player making a difference was Citlalli (CC) Cardoso-Lopez, who scored two runs and stole Two bases. while getting on base in two of her four plate appearances.

Hueneme always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .600. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Carpinteria only posted an OBP of .321.

The victory got Hueneme back to even at 4-4. As for Carpinteria, they dropped their record down to 0-7 with the defeat, which was their fourth straight on the road.

Coming up, Hueneme will venture away from home to face off against Foothill Tech at 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Foothill Tech knows how to get runs on the board -- the squad has finished with ten runs or more in their past four matches -- so hopefully Hueneme likes a good challenge. As for Carpinteria, they will host Santa Paula at 3:30 p.m. on Thursday. Carpinteria has given up an average of 18.4 runs per game this season, so hopefully the team got some pitching drills in this week.
