The Shenandoah Valley Blue Devils can finally bid farewell to their 12-game losing streak dating back to last season thanks to their game on Thursday. They walked away with a 67-57 victory over Weatherly. That 67-57 margin sets a new team best for Shenandoah Valley this season.
It was another big night for John Silvestre, who dropped a double-double on 16 points and 20 rebounds. That's the first time this season that he scored 15 or more points. Another player making a difference was Brayden Maksimik, who scored 14 points along with seven rebounds and five assists.
Despite the defeat, Weatherly saw an underclassman step up: Ian Mckeegan scored 25 points along with five rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Mckeegan has scored all season. Austyn Lamonica was another key contributor, scoring 12 points.
Shenandoah Valley's win ended a ten-game drought at home dating back to last season and bumped them up to 1-3. As for Weatherly, they still haven't won a game yet this season and fell to 0-3.
Shenandoah Valley will play host again and welcome Nativity BVM, where tip off is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. on Monday. As for Weatherly, they will head out on the road to face off against Mahanoy Area at 7:30 p.m. on Monday. Mahanoy Area knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with flashy point totals in its past four contests -- so hopefully Weatherly likes a good challenge.
