The Mullen Broncos will head out on the road to challenge the Maxwell Wildcats at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. One thing working in Mullen's favor is that they have posted at least 31 points every time they've taken the field this season.
Mullen is headed into the game after thoroughly thrashing Hyannis: they outscored them in every quarter. Given that consistent dominance, it should come as no surprise that the Broncos blew the Longhorns out of the water with a 54-16 final score. The win continues a trend for the Broncos in their matchups with the Longhorns: they've now won seven in a row.

This one was won in the trenches and the lion's share of the credit has to go to Alex Werner and Nicholas Gonzalez. Werner rushed for 125 yards and one score while Gonzalez rushed for 61 yards and a pair of touchdowns. Those 61 rushing yards gave Gonzalez a new career-high.
Mullen was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 294 rushing yards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now rushed for at least 289 rushing yards in three consecutive contests.
Mullen's defense made their presence known, laying out Dom Boppree four times. The heavy lifting was done by Daniel Wright and Tate Kvanvig, who racked up all four sacks between them. Wright is also crushing it when it comes to total tackles: he's made at least five every time he's taken the field this season.
Meanwhile, Maxwell played a tough matchup on Thursday in which they were outscored in every quarter. They came up short against Sandhills/Thedford, falling 52-28. The Wildcats have struggled against the Knights recently, as the game was their eighth consecutive lost matchup.
Mullen will have to contain Jesse Reyes as he made an impact in Maxwell's last game. He rushed for 219 yards and four TDs while picking up 9.5 yards per carry.
Maxwell's defeat dropped their record down to 3-2. As for Mullen, their victory bumped their record up to 5-0.
Friday's game might be decided on the ground. Mullen has been unstoppable on the ground this season, having averaged 263.4 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Maxwell struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 272 rushing yards. There's a good chance Friday's contest turns into a tough fight on the ground.
Mullen came out on top in a nail-biter against Maxwell when the teams last played back in October of 2024, sneaking past 45-42. One of the biggest obstacles the team faced in that game was Reyes, who rushed for 167 yards and four touchdowns while picking up 8.0 yards per carry. Now that he's got a second chance to win this matchup, will the Broncos still be able to contain Reyes? There's only one way to find out.
