Two dominant guards in Bella Hutton and Sydney Richardson are getting ready to go toe-to-toe. The Midlothian Trojans will be staying on the road on Monday to face off against the Matoaca Warriors at 6:00 p.m. on February 12th.
Midlothian pushed their score all the way to 60 on Friday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They took a 64-60 hit to the loss column at the hands of Monacan. The loss unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Midlothian in their matchups with Monacan: they've now lost seven in a row.
Matoaca was handed a 60-point defeat in their previous outing, but they didn't let that bad energy affect their game against Prince George on Thursday. Matoaca narrowly escaped with a win as the squad sidled past Prince George 43-40. Given Matoaca's advantage in MaxPreps' Virginia basketball rankings (they are ranked 109th, while Prince George is ranked 256th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Midlothian's loss was their third straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 12-8. As for Matoaca, they are on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six games, which provided a massive bump to their 13-9 record this season.
Midlothian was able to grind out a solid win over Matoaca in their previous meeting back in December of 2023, winning 51-38. The rematch might be a little tougher for Midlothian since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
