Elk Grove is 2-8 against the Huskies since January of 2019 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Monday. The Elk Grove Thundering Herd will look to defend their home court against the Sheldon Huskies at 7:30 p.m. Elk Grove will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps California Rankings (they are ranked 500th, while the Huskies are ranked 66th).
After some red-hot offensive attacks in their last four matchups, Elk Grove finally came back down to earth on Friday. They had to suffer through a rough 70-23 loss at the hands of Jesuit. The result shouldn't come as a shock considering that's the fewest points Elk Grove has scored all season.
They used a three-pronged attack on offense:
Nolan Riddle,
Danny Dennaoui, and
Liam Acido posted four points each. Acido also led the team in assists with two.
MJ Bhatia held things down on the boards with four rebounds.
Meanwhile, Sheldon waltzed into their game on Friday with eight straight wins but they left with nine. They blew past Pleasant Grove 92-63 on the road. Having run the score up that high, both teams probably have some extra defensive drills coming up.
Elk Grove has been struggling recently as they've lost six of their last eight matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 10-15 record this season. As for Sheldon, they pushed their record up to 17-8 with that victory, which was their sixth straight on the road.
Elk Grove took a serious blow against the Huskies in their previous matchup back in January, falling 82-47. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of Sheldon's Nicholas Stone, who scored 18 points along with seven assists and six steals. Now that Elk Grove knows the damage he can cause, will they be able to stop him this time? Check MaxPreps.com after the match to find out.
