The Steamboat Springs Sailors pushed their score all the way to 55 on Friday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They fell to Centaurus 60-55. Steamboat Springs has not had much luck with Centaurus recently, as the team's come up short the last four times they've met.
Steamboat Springs lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Brandon Kolb, who scored 17 points along with nine rebounds. Those 17 points set a new season-high mark for him. The team also got some help courtesy of Jeffrey Sturges, who scored 14 points along with five assists.
Steamboat Springs now has a losing record at 3-4. As for Centaurus, their victory bumped their record up to 4-5.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Steamboat Springs won't have much time to rest: their next match is against Lewis-Palmer at 12:00 p.m. on December 16th. Allowing an average of 61.5 points per game, Lewis-Palmer has struggled on the defensive end, but that doesn't have to be the case in this contest. Centaurus will have some time to savor their win since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Greeley West at 5:30 p.m. on January 5, 2024. Hopefully Greeley West focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 35 on Saturday.
