In what's become a running theme this season, the Cape Fear Colts gave their fans yet another huge victory on Friday. They put the hurt on Lumberton with a sharp 81-56 victory. Winning may never get old, but Cape Fear sure is getting used to it with their fifth in a row.
Jayda Angel was her usual excellent self, dropping a double-double on 31 points and ten rebounds. That makes it 15 consecutive games in which she has scored at least a third of Cape Fear's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Kayia Starling, who scored 22 points along with five rebounds and three blocks.
Several Pirates players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Gabryell Locklear, who scored 23 points. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Locklear has scored all season. Charley Whitley was another key contributor, almost dropping a double-double on nine points and nine rebounds.
Cape Fear pushed their record up to 14-1 with that victory, which was their third straight on the road. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 73.0 points per game. As for Lumberton, their defeat dropped their record down to 4-10.
Cape Fear will be playing in front of their home fans against the Rams at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Purnell Swett will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps North Carolina Rankings (they are ranked 324th, while the Colts are ranked 24th). As for Lumberton, they will head out on the road to face off against the Buccaneers at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
