The Piedra Vista Panthers scored the most points they've had all season to find success on Friday. They walked away with a 48-36 victory over Miyamura. Given Piedra Vista's advantage in MaxPreps' New Mexico basketball rankings (they are ranked 19th, while Miyamura is ranked 92nd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Piedra Vista's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Jaime Pierce, who scored nine points along with eight steals. Pierce continues to roll, besting her previous point total in each of the last three games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Tyra Holyan, who scored 16 points along with six rebounds and three steals.
Miyamura's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Aubrey Tah, who scored nine points. Another player making a difference was Reika Secatero, who scored eight points.
Piedra Vista's win ended a nine-game drought at home dating back to last season and bumped them up to 4-3. As for Miyamura, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 2-9.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Piedra Vista will take on Durango at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Hopefully Durango focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 18 last Saturday. Miyamura and Clovis will face off at 5:50 p.m. on December 20th without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Hopefully Clovis focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 18 on Saturday.
